Asian Philosophy:
It is here that I will go over, briefly, various
asian philosophies....
Confucianism Confucianism is one of the older
philosophies, stemming from the concept of natural
human social interactions at the time, summed up
in a notion called li, which coincides somewhat
with the natural satisfaction and personal content,
represented, arguably, by the concept of Jen Confucianism
is one of the main factors in establishing early Chinese
culture, because it founded it's thought on the idea
that anyone could become intellectual and deserved of merit
if they educated themselves properly,
Taoism Taoism is one of the more ambiguis
and leniant philosophies. The main idea is that
of the "tao," which is essentially everything as
nothing and nothing as everything, It is "Everchanging
and dim, obscure and without flavor nor color. It is
a philosophy that many use as a catalyst to affirm
beliefs in other systems, such as existentialism,
and for some, even Christianity.
Buddhism Some say Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism,
made his way to India where he became Buddha, the main
Man of Buddhism. While this story is debatable and most
likely false, it represents the general mindset of a
Buddhist, which is laid back and lenient like a Taoist.
Differing from Taoism, however, Buddhism stresses
a "life is pain" approach to day to day life, and also,
depending on what sect, various beliefs on reincarnation,
karma, nirvana and wu-wei.
Bushido Imagine Zen Buddhism meeting a various
sect of Confucianism. The result was Bushido, or Way of
The Samurai, which puts emphasis on formality, face,
personal training/discipline, and accepting and expecting
death in the midst of combat.
Shinto Shinto is a philosphy/religion that
has Kami, or roughly translated, spirits or ghosts.
In a traditional sense, Shinto has been the orgin
and identity of the Japanese, and in this way,
many Japanese holidays and customs are followed
according to Shinto tradition.
Christianity Not without influence
on Asia, Christianity is a religion wheras
much focus is put on "christ," or "the one
annointed by the people to lead them," in
the sense that, we apparantly all go to hell
unless we beleive the Christ of the "holy bible"
to be Christ himself.
Affluence of Eastern Thought
Eastern Thought has affected Western Thought
in the sense that; Western thought was traditional
more fixed on the scientific method, whereas Eastern
thought was much more rooted on a crude, yet very
human, perception of nature, mankind, and social place.
Where to go from Here? Sorry to not explain
more. *pirate.radio* experienced a meltdown on certain
system accounts, and much was lost. Unfortunetly,
much of the Chink pages were lost. Try google.com
and search for pages on the various philosophies
that interest you. Also, do not be limited to the
ones above. Their are thousands of great philosophies
out there!
